Mass–Velocity Dispersion Relation in HIFLUGCS Galaxy Clusters

چکیده
We investigate the mass-velocity dispersion relation (MVDR) in 29 galaxy clusters HIghest X-ray FLUx Galaxy Cluster Sample (HIFLUGCS). measure spatially resolved, line-of-sight velocity profiles of these clusters, which we find to be mostly flat at large radii, reminiscent rotation curves galaxies. discover a tight empirical between baryonic mass $M_\mathrm{bar}$ and $\sigma$ member galaxies, i.e. MVDR, $\log(M_\mathrm{bar}/M_\odot)=4.1^{+0.4}_{-0.4}\,\log(\sigma/\mathrm{km}\,\mathrm{s}^{-1})+1.6^{+1.0}_{-1.3}$, with lognormal intrinsic scatter $12^{+3}_{-3}\%$. The residuals MVDR are uncorrelated other cluster properties like temperature, radius, surface density, redshift. These characteristics for individual albeit about ten times larger characteristic acceleration scale. baryon fraction falls short cosmic value, exposing problem: discrepancy increases systematically lower acceleration.

The Mean and Scatter of the Velocity-dispersion–optical Richness Relation for Maxbcg Galaxy Clusters
The distribution of galaxies in position and velocity around the centers of galaxy clusters encodes important information about cluster mass and structure. Using the maxBCG galaxy cluster catalog identified from imaging data obtained in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we study the BCG–galaxy velocity correlation function. By modeling its non-Gaussianity, we measure the mean and scatter in velocit...
متن کاملThe Temperature-mass Relation in Magnetized Galaxy Clusters
We use cosmological, magneto-hydrodynamic simulations of galaxy clusters to quantify the dynamical importance of magnetic fields in these clusters. The set-up of initial magnetic field strengths at high redshifts is chosen such that observed Faraday-rotation measurements in low-redshift clusters are well reproduced in the simulations. We compute the radial profiles of the intracluster gas tempe...
متن کاملThe AGN fraction – velocity dispersion relation in clusters of galaxies
Context. Some previous investigations have found that the fraction (fAGN ) of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is lower in clusters than in the field. This can result from the suppression of galaxy-galaxy mergers in high-velocity dispersion (σv) clusters, if the formation and/or fueling of AGNs is directly related to the merging process. Aims. We investigate the existence of a relation between fAG...
متن کاملMass-Temperature Relation of Galaxy Clusters: A Theoretical Study
Combining conservation of energy throughout nearly-spherical collapse of galaxy clusters with the virial theorem, we derive the mass-temperature relation for X-ray clusters of galaxies T = CM. The normalization factor C and the scatter of the relation are determined from first principles with the additional assumption of initial Gaussian random field. We are also able to reproduce the recently ...
